Big News... Small Occupant

Well, it's hard to believe, but we're actually pregnant! Actually, Dan's not pregnant at all but I totally am! Here's a picture of our little occupant. The head is on the right and the little one's constantly moving around.
So, here are the details. On Feb. 13, after about a week of thinking a normal part of my month had been missed... I broke down and took a home pregnancy test we had in the house from forever-ago when we were really trying to get pregnant. It had expired on Dec. 2006. :-) Dan had left earlier that morning to meet with the recruiter to get the last of his paperwork turned in. The test seemed to be positive, so I went in to the clinic to confirm it.
I sat like a crazy women in the waiting room after taking the test, reading a blank calendar page in my planner. Of course, the only magazines near me were baby magazines. Finally the nurse called me back to show me the results. The printout read Negative. That, of course, would cause any women to worry about more serious reasons for being so late. I headed home, disappointed and a little worried that something might be really wrong.
I got home to find a voice mail on my phone. It was the hospital. I called back expecting that it was a message from the lab because they didn't realize I was waiting. They transferred me to the unit, then to the nurse who was a little freaked out. She knew we had waited 10 years for this and felt so bad to show me the results. Now, she was nearly scramming that the lab typed it in wrong, they double checked it, and the test was actually positive. I was actually pregnant! So then I freaked out a little.
I called Dan who was still with the recruiter, so I didn't tell him. I called to make an appointment with my doctor for 12:40. About 30 minutes later I called Dan and found him on the freeway driving home. So I told him. :-) Thankfully he didn't drive off the road.
A week later, on Feb. 21 we went in for an ultrasound. Our doctor got a great view of the baby. There's only one, for sure. And the baby was moving around and grooving. We got to see a few imagines of the little one in 4-D. All is well. Everything is as it should be. We even got to hear the heart beat. 150ish a minute!!
On Feb. 27th I went in for my first full OB. I'm waiting for results from the first set of screening tests, but everything looked great. I got to hear the heartbeat again too.
So, today, I feel great. Eating is getting easier. Tomorrow is day 1 of Week 11 so I'm expecting the exhaustion to begin to decrease in the next month. I'm also looking forward shopping for cute new pregnant close. And on Sunday we tell the congregation officially. That's a little freaky because, believe it or not, I don't like being the center of attention. It is, however, super-fun to share this amazing news.
For Dan, we continue to wait on the review boards decision. They meet on March 7. This means we might hear on the 7th or shortly after... or we might hear some time next spring. We'll keep you updated.
Lots of love from ALL of us.

Did I say you could take a vacation...

So we wait, and wait... and finally learn that the date we're working toward is Feb. 20. That's when everything is due. No problem. We're ready. Unfortunate, we don't actually turn anything in. We have to rely on other people to turn stuff in... and they are all on vacation. So we wait.

Tomorrow one guy is supposed to be back in the office. Our goal is that we can verify that the packet is in the right office, complete, by the 14th.

The 14th is apparently also Valentines day. That's all good and fine... but its travel day for us. We're headed for a conference in a warmer climate and planning on enjoying it thoroughly. We're living with the fantasy that the week between then and now will be easy... but we're totally swamped with work and are not planning on taking much with us.

We'll update if anything changes. Think productive thoughts.

an odd beginging

Ok... life is finally moving forward a bit, so it would be helpful to have a place to keep folks up to date and to stay better connected.

So here we are. It's freezeing cold outside (again, this is how God tells people to move) and we're choosing to be trapped inside. We have movies, work, and enough laundry to do to keep us busy for a while. The tea is hot and the heat is on. Not a bad day all around.
